Uganda
a former British Protectorate attained its independence
from Great Britain on 9th October 1962. Uganda went through
regrettable periods of political decline during 1970's and
early 1980's. However, the country has emerged from this
decline since 1986 with the advent of the Movement Government.
Democracy and the rule of law have been re-established.
Uganda's economy is on a steady up ward growth with an annual
growth rate of 6%. Industrial development, infrastructure,
Hotels and Multi-national companies are briskly investing
and flourishing in Uganda making it the fastest growing
economy in the Sub-Saharan African.
Uganda lies astride the equator in East Africa at an average
altitude of 1200m above sea level, with an average of 22oc,
which is modest enough for all visitors through out the
year.
Public Transport from the capital city of Kampala is efficient
to all up country destination.
Hotel accommodation in most cities and national parks in
Uganda is available for upper, middle, and budget markets.
Uganda is a land of variety and contrasts. In the Eastern
part of the country, the Mt. Elgon stands at 4321metres
above sea level and immediately gives way to expansive plains
teeming with Savannah Grass Land and large Tropical Trees.
Central Uganda is rugged hills with rich fertile soils enabling
the growth of variety of food crops, Cash crops and vegetables.
Western Uganda is made of undulating hills with beautiful
terraced gardens and natural stunted shrubs ideal for pastoralism.
The Rwenzori Mountains stand at the western border with
the Democratic Republic of Congo rising to 5,100 m above
sea level.
Northern Uganda is open plain with tall savannah grassland.
However, the North Eastern is sealed off with Mt Moroto
in Karamoja.
Amidst this varied topography is the treasure of Uganda's
10 National parks teeming with abundant wild life/fauna
and flora as nature blends with human development.
